BBVA Integrates ChatGPT Enterprise for AI-Driven Banking Workflows

2025-12-13 by AICC

BBVA is executing one of the financial sector's most significant AI deployments to date, integrating ChatGPT Enterprise directly into its operational backbone. By embedding OpenAI’s platform into core banking workflows, the institution aims to overhaul risk management and service delivery, prioritizing tangible value extraction over hype.

From Pilot to Enterprise Expansion

The banking giant began its partnership with OpenAI in May 2024, initiating a pilot with 3,300 accounts. This "test the waters" approach validated the business case for a tenfold expansion, now rolling out tools to nearly 11,000 employees.

Data from the intermediate rollout highlights significant efficiency gains:

  • Productivity Boost: Employees saved approximately three hours per week on routine tasks.
  • High Engagement: Over 80% of users logged in daily.
  • Bottom-Up Innovation: Staff created thousands of custom GPTs for collaborative and administrative duties.

Reshaping Operations and Risk Analysis

The alliance goes beyond simple productivity. BBVA plans to use this partnership to streamline risk analysis—a traditionally resource-intensive area—and redesign software development processes.

"We are now entering the AI era with even greater ambition," said Carlos Torres Vila, BBVA Chairman. "Our alliance with OpenAI accelerates the native integration of artificial intelligence across the bank to create a smarter, more proactive, and completely personalised banking experience."

Security and "Blue" Virtual Assistant

Given the heavily regulated nature of banking, the rollout includes strict enterprise-grade security and privacy measures. This ensures client data remains protected while allowing staff to access OpenAI’s latest models.

On the consumer side, BBVA has already deployed 'Blue', a virtual assistant built on OpenAI models that assists customers via natural language. To ensure successful adoption, BBVA and OpenAI are collaborating on specialized training programs to bridge the skills gap often seen in enterprise software deployment.
