HTB AI Range Review Cybersecurity Resilience Training Platform for Professionals

Cybersecurity training provider Hack The Box (HTB) has officially launched the HTB AI Range — a dedicated platform designed to let organisations test autonomous AI security agents under realistic, high-pressure conditions, with oversight from human cybersecurity professionals. The platform's core mission is to help enterprises assess how effectively AI systems, and mixed human–AI teams, can defend critical infrastructure.
As vulnerabilities in AI models compound those already present in traditional IT environments, HTB is proposing a structured testing ground where AI agents and human defenders collaborate under realistic pressure — measuring and benchmarking their combined cybersecurity capabilities before agentic tools are deployed in live environments.
🔍 How HTB AI Range Works
HTB describes the AI Range as a simulation of enterprise complexity, featuring thousands of offensive and defensive targets that are continuously updated to reflect the evolving threat landscape. The platform supports mapping to widely recognised cyber frameworks, including:

- 🌐 OWASP Top 10 (Open Worldwide Application Security Project)
💡 Key Finding: In a recent AI vs. human capture the flag (CTF) exercise, autonomous AI agents solved 19 out of 20 basic challenges. However, in multi-step challenges within more complex environments, human teams consistently outperformed the AI agents.
This finding underscores a critical insight: AI still struggles with complexity and multi-stage operations, reinforcing the continuing and irreplaceable value of human expertise — particularly in high-stakes or intricate security scenarios.
