Snowflake Expands AI Platform Features for Technical and Mainstream Users

2026-04-23 by AICC

Snowflake is significantly expanding its Snowflake Intelligence and Cortex Code offerings, aiming to empower users deploying and developing artificial intelligence within the Snowflake ecosystem. The strategic expansion positions Snowflake Intelligence as a comprehensive tool for business users across all departments, while Cortex Code targets developers and technical teams seeking advanced AI capabilities.

According to the company's official announcement, both platforms now feature enhanced integration capabilities with third-party software, new automation features, and simplified web-based methods for building agentic AI workflows that streamline enterprise operations.

Enterprise AI for Every Business User

Snowflake Intelligence, designed specifically for non-technical staff, stands among today's leading platforms capable of executing tasks within existing business workflows. The platform enables users to communicate their requirements in natural language, with the LLM executing specified tasks autonomously.

Key use cases include preparing presentations, running multi-step data analyses, and automating follow-up communications—all powered by natural language commands.

The platform can access data from an organization's internal and connected digital assets, including both structured and unstructured data, with external sources integrated through various protocols and pre-built connectors for seamless data flow.

🔒 Security and Compliance: User queries and resulting workflows are carefully restricted based on access permissions and organizational governance frameworks, preventing data loss incidents and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Enhanced Integration Capabilities

New interfaces utilizing MCP (Model Context Protocol) are now available. Snowflake has confirmed integration support for:

  • Google Business Suite
  • Jira
  • Salesforce (including Slack)

Additionally, an iOS application for Snowflake Intelligence will enter public preview in the near future, extending accessibility to mobile users.

🎯 The Intelligence platform becomes increasingly personalized over time through machine learning from user behavior patterns. Users can save and share workflows for organizational efficiency, while extended context windows eliminate the need for repetitive, lengthy prompts.

These updates emerged from Project SnowWork, a research initiative launched last month to demonstrate platform capabilities and gather user feedback on desired features for enterprise AI solutions.

Developer-Focused AI Innovation

Cortex Code is engineered for enterprise software development teams, addressing areas where AI algorithms demonstrate exceptional performance in lower-level coding tasks. The platform functions as a comprehensive coding and orchestration layer with expanded integration options.

External Data Source Integration

Cortex Code now supports connections to:

  • AWS Glue
  • Databricks
  • Postgres

The platform can interface with other language models through both MCP and ACP (Agent Communication Protocol), the commerce-oriented protocol that emerged alongside Anthropic's MCP standard.

💻 VS Code users will soon access Cortex Code as an extension (currently in private preview), while a Snowflake plugin for Claude Code is under active development.

Snowflake's Agent Software Development Kit for Python and TypeScript is currently available, enabling development teams to embed Cortex Code functions directly into their proprietary applications.

Cloud Agents and Enhanced Transparency

Cloud Agents, currently in private preview, will appear in Snowsight, Snowflake's browser-based interface. The new Plan Mode feature allows users to preview and approve workflows before AI execution, providing critical oversight for enterprise operations.

The company is developing functionality that enables end-users to examine detailed research processes undertaken by the LLM, ensuring transparency and verifying the accuracy of AI-driven decisions.

Market Adoption and Strategic Impact

Snowflake reports that over 9,100 customers actively use its AI products weekly. Since launching six months ago, more than half of Snowflake's customer base has adopted either Snowflake Intelligence or Cortex Code, demonstrating significant market penetration.

The company's dual-pronged strategy—targeting both mainstream business users and software development teams—reinforces its position in the technical market while expanding platform adoption across general business functions. The introduction of new software connectors, mobile applications, and browser-based options creates broader market accessibility, while enhanced support for existing systems increases appeal among enterprises with established workflows and software platforms.

Sameer Vuyyuru, Chief AI and Product Officer at Capita: "Snowflake helps us deploy AI securely and with the right governance across highly regulated, citizen-facing services where performance, compliance and trust are critical."
